My name is Finora Reilly and I am from Yarmouth, Massachusetts, which is on Cape Cod. I’m a Leo who gives a fake name at Starbucks because I don’t want to deal with the hassle of spelling “Finora” and started collecting records last year. My favorite colors are green and orange, and I’m a fashion merchandising major with minors in fashion media and textiles. I use Spotify Premium, watched 100 movies in the first 100 days of quarantine, and have worn hearing aids since I was 3.
Currently, I live alone in Kent, Ohio on campus, but in Yarmouth I live with my mom and sister. I also share a room with my sister, so I think we’re both happy I’m moved out for the school year. Weirdly enough, I don’t miss home, at this point I see Kent as more of a home than Yarmouth ever has been. Besides my family, there isn’t much keeping me around.

I was always the outgoing member of my family, whether that was in the sense of making new friends of talking to strangers or how I expressed myself. I’m a fire sign in a house full of earth, my parents always say that makes sense.

I grew up going to Disney almost every year, and eventually taking trips to Europe, eventually leading to my dream of living in France or Italy… or really anywhere in that area. While I’m horrible at picking up on new languages, I do have some understandings of the culture and the differences between there and the United States. I’d like to think growing up in New England helped me with that, as we don’t smile at strangers and generally avoid conversation where its not needed. Midwestern hospitality still weirds me out a little bit.
Growing up by the ocean is ideal for so many people, but I have never felt much connection with it. In the summer its too busy and full of tourists, and in the winter it’s too cold. I favor green grass and mountains by a landslide, and most people think I’m crazy for that, but I guess Ohio is a sensible choice for me. Maybe its the sand getting everywhere, and having to take my hearing aids out to go in the water, or maybe I would have been the same way if I didn’t wear them.
Where I’m from has made me into the person I am today, but I don’t think it defines me. It has created someone who likes independence, making friends, fashion, and hopefully some sense of direction in life.
