Where I’m From…

My Life As It Goes

I have always lived in one place my entire life but that is not to say that I haven’t traveled because I have. I grew up in a small town called Poland (and no not the country sadly). Located in Ohio, Poland is quaint, quiet and takes after a storybook setting. My mother, Tricia and father, Charles grew up here but only dated years later when they had me.

I was born on April 30th, 2003 six years after my brother George. From a young age I have always looked up to my half-siblings; although since we are so close we drop the half! My eldest sister Emma pursued dance as did I. Both my mother and father thought it would make me more graceful which thankfully it did.

Fun Fact: I danced for an entire week on a stress fracture in my right ankle and never knew! How exciting!

After dancing for 15 years I chose to take a break. It was time for that chapter of my life to close and began anew. I am not sure if I will ever return to dancing but it is a talent I will carry with me forever.

My sister Anna had pursued fashion design at Kent State; she had influenced me to try for the fashion merchandising program.

After receiving my letter of acceptance to the School of Fashion in Spring 2021 I had decided to focus on furthering my fashion career at Kent State University.

Family is the most important thing to me. Since covid-19 hit, those precious moments spent with loved ones have become scarce; however, I have chose to cherish the new memories I will create more deeply. This past summer our family spent two relaxing weeks on the shores of Old Naples, Florida. A vacation I will hold close to my heart because of how happy it made me to be with the people I enjoy the most.

Where I’m Going

Before I say where I’m headed let’s start with where I am.

I have wrapped up my first year at Kent State and I have met some amazing people. I was blessed to have such inspirational girlfriends come into my life. It’s even better that we all live on the same floor! Even though the year is not quite over yet, I feel right at home. So many opportunities, chances and experiences have made this past semester fly. As for fashion, I am continuing with the merchandising program-haven’t dropped out yet!

Now, onto where I’m going. After completing four years at Kent State Fashion School I hope to move to New York City. My dream is to pursue a career in buying and working in the luxury market. As I stated earlier, I love to travel. This job requires 80% travel time and the other 20% would be utilized working in the studio. Since the 6th grade I always knew I would venture into fashion. I have also had the privilege to visit New York on many occasions with my parents. From there the love for the city grew. I could picture myself there, surrounded by the chaos but feeling right at home.

As I have been telling myself since a young age, ‘whatever gets you to New York gets you to New York’. As a freshman in college I still stand behind that statement. It is where my future belongs and so will my heart. That’s all for now but I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom from Didion.

“To live recklessly. To take chances. To make your own work and take pride in it. To seize the moment.”

Joan Didion
