I am currently a Senior attending Kent State University majoring in Digital Media Productions with a focus in film. The first time I took a tour around Kent’s main campus, I knew I wanted this to be my new home just as my mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa did. The students and faculty were so welcoming and encouraging. I immediately knew I was in the right place. As soon as I found out about their Digital Media Productions Major I scheduled a second personal tour dedicated to my major. After that second tour everything fell even further into place. Ever since then, Franklin hall has been my safe space to be as creative as I want. I could not have chosen a better place to attend other than Kent.
The department I am most interested in working with is the Art Department. I want to become an Art Director. A typical day of an Art Director consists of helping with design sets, working closely with the Production Designer, and overseeing ideas of artists to help determine what the final look of the film is supposed to look like.
I love the aspect of storytelling not just through visual design but also through audio. In my free time, I hope that I am also able to work on producing podcasts and editing them while I am not working on set.
I am interested in working closely with streaming services because of the popularity of them over regular TV and movie theatres. I am looking forward to one day working for Netflix where I can have the opportunity to work on many different types of projects.
These projects will allow me to master my skill as Art Director working on multiple sets that range across a vast variety of genres. Due to streaming services being so new and upcoming this is the new future of entertainment.
