Where I’m From

Welcome All!

My name is Sophia Bruno. I grew up in a small town outside of Youngstown, Ohio called Niles. My town is most famous for our 25th president, William McKinley. I grew up in a family of four consisting of myself, my mom Heather, my dad Joseph, and my sister Gabriella.

We grew up in a very tight knit family. My father’s mom, dad, and sister are from Italy and lived right next door to us. We spent a lot of time there celebrating every holiday in the most extravagant ways possible and having a huge family dinner on sundays to catch up with one another. Due to my dad’s side of the family in America being so small, I learned the importance of family and being grateful for what I have. In July of 2017, my family and I adopted a kitten named Cooper. I call him my therapy animal, but really I am more therapy for him than he is for me. Not long after that, we got Cooper a little sister named Gigi.

From ages thirteen to seventeen, I competed in the Miss Niles pageant where I won the title of Miss Niles in 2017. While I served my term as Miss Niles, I advocated for young women in my community as their voice and someone to look up to. I attended many social events and fundraisers as the face for my community’s young women. Coming from such a small town has made me a family oriented person that loves getting involved in the community. Pageantry has inspired me to keep advocating for women’s mental health. I love the place I am in now and I will always find a way to add a little piece of home in many of my projects to make my community proud of the person I am becoming.
